Camelbak’s Delaney Series of Bottle Carriers
Although Camelbak is better known for its hydration packs,
they also carry a full range of other products designed specifically for
various kinds of athletes. Among these is the series of waist-worn bottle carriers
named after Camelbak’s own Boston
marathon runner, who has successfully finished the marathon twenty-three times
now. The Delaney series of bottle carriers is designed for comfort and to allow
runners and speed walkers to carry both water and other items, such as energy
bars, mobile phone, wallet and keys. Although earlier models are still
available, in 2010 the Delaney comes in three different styles, the Delaney
Fit, the Delaney Plus, and the Delany Race; but they are all fairly similar in
both function and performance.
The Delaney Fit is designed for shorter training runs and
carries a water bottle, a couple of energy bars, a mobile phone, keys, and
wallet and has a special pocket designed to hold an MP3 player despite only
having thirty cubic inches of cargo space. This means the runner or speed
walker does not have to wear clothes with pockets or carry a secondary bag as
they go. Much of the belt is made of air mesh, which allows good ventilation
while the belt is worn, and there is additional mesh webbing over many of the
pockets that is designed to help keep everything stable while the best is being
worn. One of the great things about the Delaney Fit is that it usually comes
with a twenty-four ounce Camelbak® Podium® Bottle
included. This is one of Camelbak’s top selling water bottles and usually
considered a product in its own right.
The most popular of the Delaney line is the Delaney Plus,
which has one hundred cubic inches of cargo space, giving it more than three
times the carrying capacity of the Delaney Fit described above. Coming in a
wide range of colors and styles, the Delaney Plus is really the ideal
waist-worn pack for runners and speed walkers and carries enough material to
keep most people happy for long runs that take multiple hours, like marathons.
Generally speaking, the Delaney Plus does not come with a water battle included
since it is a popular product in its own right, but it is largely designed to
accommodate a twenty-four ounce Camelbak® Podium® Bottle.
Like the rest of the Delaney series, the Delaney Plus is designed to be worn
comfortably, even when it is being used at capacity and is very light and
breathable.
The Delaney Race, the third of the Delaney series being
produced in 2010, was specifically designed for people running 10K races,
although obviously it can be used by other runners and speed walkers just as
easily. Like the Delaney Fit, this pack also comes with a twenty-four ounce
Camelbak® Podium® water bottle as well as two five-ounce
gel flasks. The Delaney Race has considerably less carrying capacity than the
Delaney Plus, so may not meet everyone’s requirements, but it is better
optimized for athletic performance. For example, the “cinch fit” tightening
system with dual adjustments allows the wearer to customize how and where the
Delaney Race is worn with much more leeway than the other Delaney models.
