The Swiss City Power Gigathalon
I think I have finally gone crazy! Let me ask you one simple question, have you ever heard of the Swiss City Power Gigathalon? I didn’t think so; I am the only one crazy enough to search out the worlds most grueling endurance events. The Swiss City Power Gigathalon is one of the world’s most unique endurance events which challenge your body not only physically, but also mentally; the event itself covers 1378 kilometers in some of the world’s most mountainous environments. This is what I have been training for lately, and with the help of my trusty hydration pack I think when 5 July comes around I will be set to tackle the other competitors.
The event has a series of components, which is why it is called a gigathalon as opposed to a triathlon. While some of the vents you would expect to see in an endurance race, I bet you never considered that an endurance event would also incorporate a 173 kilometer skating event. That’s right folks, skating, and I haven’t really had much to do with skating since I was a young kid down at the local skating ring. But I have to admit, I have been doing a lot of make up practice in the last 3 months, trying to put in at least six to eight hours of skate training in the hilly roads surrounding my house. And let me tell you, it may be winter, but pushing up hill on a set of roller skates is hard and demanding work. I have been going through every little bit of fluid in my hydration pack, just to keep my thirst quenched. If it wasn’t for the hydration pack I think I would have passed out from dehydration on the last hill every time.
My training has been really good. I have been eating all the right foods, so that I have enough stored energy, and really practicing to make sure I can down the much needed fluid to keep my body going on the go. I’ve been using my training program to incorporate some hidden surprises for my body, so nothing can shock me during the Swiss City Power Gigathalon. I have even been practicing putting the right amounts of electrolyte powder into the water in my hydration pack, so I know my body is going to have all it needs to be as competitive as possible on 5 July.
This time I really think I am going to come in to the winning line first. I have never trained so hard or energetically for any other event ever before, so this is one event I know you guys are really going to be proud of me. And next year, after you see how I go, and see that the Swiss City Power Gigathalon is an event that can be tackled by just about anyone, I want a few of you to put up your hands and join me in the team event. I’ll even throw you a hydration pack to make sure you come out in front.
