The importance of Fluid

The use of hydration knowledge has come a very long way since the days when a plastic cup of water was all an adventure sportsman thought was necessary. Today, the manufacturers of sports drinks are out there promoting the benefits of their particular products both in terms of keeping adventurers healthy and improving their performance.

Many people say that it is all very well, however, the basis of these business is to be making money, and not necessarily interested in the health of adventure sportspeople. It is true that manufacturers are interested in the health of their profit margins, but the health of their customers is also good for their business.

You do not need to hold a sports science degree to understand the principles of hydration. You sweat and this means that you are loosing salt and water from your body. This is something that needs to be replenished. If you do not rehydrate yourself, your body is going to become less efficient and in the extreme cases if you fail to rehydrate yourself, well then this can have fatal consequences. What you need to remember is to continually rehydrate yourself so that you do not suffer from the affects of dehydration.

Your body will remind you when you are starting to dehydrate. The first sign of dehydration is a feeling of thirst, don’t ignore this feeling, but in actuality you should be rehydrating yourself before you even start feeling thirsty. Drink continually, small amounts and you will find that you will never face the dangers of dehydration.

The best sources of fluid are by far water and fruit juices. Not only do they satisfy your fluid needs, but in the later case, they also provide you with much needed carbohydrates to keep your body going stronger for longer. Sport’s drinks also have their benefits, but it is important to remember that these can be costly if used for extended periods of time.

Both water and fruit juice are excellent in terms of fluid intake, and the latter contains carbohydrates. Sports drinks are also a good source of both glucose (sugar) and those electrolytes referred to previously, which translates as potassium and sodium. The main thing that you need to consider is continually hydrating yourself.
